THE MUSIC: DIRECTOR'S NOTES |
![]() |
![]() LAREDO ROSE Performed by TEXAS TORNADOS Written by RICH MINUS Nothing captures the sense of South Texas like The Texas Tornados, a spicy Tex-Mex quartet made up of four seasoned players: Freddy Fender, Augie Meyers & Doug Sahm, veterans of the Sir Douglas Quintet; and legendary southwestern accordion player Flaco Jimenez. They formed the Texas Tornados in 1989. One thing that makes their music stand out is their unique fusion of Mexican polkas and folk music, contemporary Tex Mex, '50s style rock and doowop and blues. "Laredo Rose", probably inspired by a trip to "Boystown" in Nuevo Laredo, is used as source music in Fletcher's '63 Impala convertible when Roz asks him to show her his favorite place in San Antonio. ![]() |
